A Balance to Contagious Enthusiasm

WR as road to Florence?

The Council of Florence, it is thought, failed because it was top-down, not bottom-up. I don’t agree with that assessment, but we’ve shown through recent experiments that it is possible to get rid of a troublesome St. Mark of Ephesus or Met. Vitaly if we need to. Could it be that the push to spread Western Rite parishes and missions is a preparatory initiative that will soften the people, so they don’t burn the bears of their priests and run to St. Mark when the next Florence happens?\

See Richard Barrett: “Point being: a reunited Church will require effort from the ground up. If it’s something the hierarchy imposes, it will do more harm than good–witness the Council of Florence. “
